Essential oil blends for newbies

So, you’re intrigued by essential oils. The world of essential oils can be a little intimidating, considering there are over 90 types. You might be thinking, “Where do I start?” But fear not. We’ll talk you through some of our favourite essential oils and talk about their practical everyday uses.

There’s a lot of talk about how essential oils can cure common ailments, like stomach aches and insomnia. Essential oils may have healing properties, but we love them because they smell incredible and provide a lot of joy. Joy conquers stress, anxiety, and depression any day!

Let’s dive in.

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are the results of distilled plant essences. Large quantities of the plant (fruit, herb, flower, etc.) are distilled to extract their aromatic compounds. The plants are either distilled with steam or cold pressed. Then, the aromatic compounds are infused in a carrier oil.

Examples of well-known essential oils include lemon, frankincense, and peppermint. To make these essential oils, large quantities of these materials are distilled to extract their essence. It takes about 45 lemons to make one 15 mL bottle of lemon essential oil!

Essential oil benefits

There’s a lot of information and literature about the use of essential oils to treat common ailments.

Ancient Egyptians used essential oils during mummification, and essential oils were used to treat common ailments like headaches, colds, tooth pain, and more.

We love essential oils for their aromatherapy benefits and as a source of natural fragrance.

Aromatherapy has been used to treat anxiety, depression and insomnia. When used with a diffuser, essential oils can help you gain a sense of calm and peace. Aromatherapy is great when used as part of a self-care routine.

Essential oils are also a great natural source of fragrance. Synthetic fragrance can irritate the skin, nose, and lungs. Essential oils also have a much richer aroma than synthetic fragrance. You can add essential oils to homemade cleaning solutions, deodorant, skin creams, and more.

How to use essential oils

The best way to use essential oils is with a diffuser. Diffusers make the air in your home smell heavenly, lending an overall feeling of calm and turning your home into an oasis.

We offer two types of diffusers.

The Wooden Essential Oil Diffuser by Plantish is a great low-tech diffuser that looks beautiful in your living room. To use, just add a few drops into the centre. For aromatherapy in the car, use the On The Go Diffuser. Way better than those crappy gas station car fresheners!

If you have an electric diffuser, just add a few drops of essential oil to water, and turn your diffuser on.

Another way to use essential oils is simply to rub a few drops in your hands, cup your hands over your nose and mouth, and inhale. Taking a moment to focus on your sense of smell is mindfulness in action. Breathing in pleasant aromas is a great supplement to a daily meditation practice or self-care routine.
